SA's Denton named National Community Female Player of the Year

Sarah Denton has this morning been named winner of the National Community Female Player of the Year at the rebel Female Football Awards in Sydney.

The Flinders Flames player picked up the award in Sydney on Friday, pipping five other community players around the country for the accolade.

Her club, Flinders Flames, nominated Sarah back in November for the South Australian awards for her 'invaluable guidance, confidence and support on and off the pitch.'

Sarah was new to Flinders Flames WFC this year and at just 19-years-old was voted as the Division 1 Team Captain. She has demonstrated strong leadership qualities reflected between the Division 1 and 3 squad in training sessions and game days, promoting player movement, development of the club’s rising stars and junior girls.

Sarah told Football SA how honoured she is for the award and told her excitement for the Women's game in Australia.

I am honoured to receive this award from Football Australia. I must say a huge thank you to my soccer family at Flinders Flames. They continually prove their love and support, to not only me but everyone else involved in the club. I am really proud to be a part of Flames who are continuing to grow every week and provide a safe and happy space for all to play the sport we all love.

I can’t wait to see where we go in the future, not only Flames but Football nationally. Females in the game are headed in an upwards direction and I am so excited to watch us all grow!"

Sarah was awarded by her teammates as the club’s Most Valued Player and the Golden boot award recipient for Division 1. She always reinforces constructive and encouraging communication on and off the pitch, giving teammates invaluable guidance, confidence and support. She has also expressed her desire to further her knowledge of the game by undertaking the C License coaching course.

Football SA would like to congratulate Sarah for this achievement.
