Campbelltown City crowned NPLSA champions topping off a goal fest at Grand Final Day

Campbelltown City have been crowned NPLSA Champions for the second successive year, topping off a day full goals at a sunny Grand Final Day at Coopers Stadium on Saturday.

A long day of football ended with the NPL, where Campbelltown City dominated the pitch and took home the 2019 NPL Championship, with a 3-0 win over Adelaide Comets, which included a man of the match performance from hat-trick hero Marc Marino.

Marino struck early for Campbelltown, within the first five minutes giving the current NPL champions the advantage and confidence which grew in droves as the game went on. Marino then grabbed goals either side of half-time, with both goals coming off the back of some sublime team play.

Adelaide Comets young gun Tete Yengi caused issues for Campbelltown City but his side failed to get on the scoresheet.

Joe Mullen’s side will soak up the glory of a back to back Grand Final victory before turning their attention to the National Premier League Finals Series, where they will travel interstate to Queensland to take on Lions FC on Sunday, September 22.

The WNPL ended in dramatic fashion, with Adelaide City’s Georgia Campagnale striking with a minute left of extra-time to secure the championship for City for the third time in a row.

Pritchard gave West Adelaide an early lead after four minutes giving her side the perfect start. Substitute Hodgson equalised with 15 minutes to go to take the tie to extra-time. Adelaide City’s Nanako Sasaki was awarded the Player of the Match.

The day started with Adelaide Hills taking on Vipers FC for the title of State League 2 Champions. Hills took the lead early on through Hosking, before Stefanopoulos bagged a brace for Vipers in the second half to take the tie to extra time. Adelaide Hills dominated Vipers FC from then on and scored twice, with goals from Bowman and a second for Hosking, ending the game with a 3-1 win.

Adelaide Hills’ Nathan Elliot was awarded Player of the Match by the match officials.

In State League 1, Cumberland United overpowered Modbury Jets to take out the 2019 State League 1 Championship, finishing with a 3-1 win.

The game was gritty with plenty of strong challenges and great goals, including a sensational 30 metre strike from Callum Elms, secured the win. A goal after the break from Tom Briscoe gave Cumberland daylight. Modbury skipper Michael Doyle brought one back for the Jets before Briscoe added his second to secure the win.

Minor Premiers Modbury Jets were reduced to 9 men after Taylor Martyn and Zac Miller saw red in the last 20 minutes.

Briscoe was awarded the medal for the best player on the field, as voted by match officials, however, he refused to accept the honour and graciously gave his award to fellow Cumberland player Juan Pablo Gutierrez.

The attendance for all four matches was a combined 4788.
