Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program

Message from the Hon Corey Wingard MP

Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing

4 December 2018

Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program

One of my key focuses as Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing is to ensure all South Australian's have the opportunity to participate in their chosen sport and have access to sporting infrastructure that supports participation at all levels.

As you may know a new grant program has been announced, which will focus on the development of female and family friendly shared use facilities for the female growth sports of Australian Rules Football, Cricket, and Netball.

I want to assure you that as a sport outside of the Grassroots Football, Cricket, and Netball Facility Program, funding opportunities are available to establish or improve sporting facilities that meet the needs of your members.

Of the funding distributed by the previous Government through the former Female Facilities Program, 71% of the total amount was provided to projects where the sports of Australian Rules Football, Cricket, and Netball are or will be the main benefactors.

The current Government is committed to assisting all sports. Through the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program, sports outside of Australian Rules Football, Cricket, and Netball will be given priority access to the funding available to establish or upgrade sporting infrastructure. The next round of the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program will open in February 2019 with $4.35 million available to develop sporting infrastructure that meets the current and future needs of the South Australian community.

I encourage you to liaise with Funding Services at the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing regarding a future application through Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program. They can be contacted on 1300 714 990.

I am committed to working in partnership with all stakeholders to deliver better places to participate which recognise the role that sport plays in supporting communities to come together to compete, play and get active.
