Football Federation SA and the South Australian Amateur Soccer League are pleased to announce affiliation.
Representatives of the South Australian Amateur Soccer League (SAASL) met at a Special General Meeting on Tuesday 10 October to vote on affiliation with Football Federation SA (FFSA). The special general meeting was called following extensive discussions between the two bodies resulted in unanimous agreement by SAASL Management to proceed with a formal vote of amateur clubs.
Football Federation SA President Sam Ciccarello commended SAASL Management and Clubs,
“Discussions with the SAASL Management have been very productive and the response received by amateur clubs at the SGM illustrated the will to work cooperatively in the future. This is a great day for Football in the state.”
SAASL President Bill Bailey looked forward to establishing strong relations between the two bodies,
“The league management committee unanimously supported the change that will see the code unite and work towards a common goal. We look forward to improved relations as the code continues to grow and offer opportunities to those choosing soccer as their sport of choice.”
Football has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years and the need to come together as a collective unified body was paramount to ensure the code continued to flourish in South Australia. Affiliation will result in clubs having greater access to participation opportunities, access to funding and improved collaboration between competitions from a regulatory perspective.
FFA CEO David Gallop was delighted with news of affiliation,
“This is an excellent result for Football in South Australia and will grow and strengthen the game under a unified body. The FFA congratulates SAASL and Football Federation SA for working cooperatively to achieve such a positive outcome for Football.”
Football Federation SA CEO Michael Carter stated,
“Having the code unite is in the best interest of Football in the State and will provide a platform for real momentum to be shared by the entire Football Family. Football Federation SA looks forward to working together to continue growth of the game at all levels."
The matter relating to the number of positions South Australian Football receives in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 will be formally discussed with the FFA.
