Football Federation SA is saddened to hear the passing of former WT Birkalla player, Jed McDonald.
A statement on the WT Birkalla Facebook page read:
Jed was a true “Birks Boy”. From MiniRoos to Juniors, he was selected in the Senior Squad, playing in the Under 18’s in 2017.
Jed was an inspirational young man. A leader and Captain, his talent as a player was recognised with several accolades including Best and Fairest and Most Consistent.
Through it all, he always remained modest and humble in his success. He was loved and respected for his quality as a footballer, easy going personality and that smile that never dimmed.
We respected his fight on the pitch, and most recently, his fight off the pitch, as he battled illness.
Our thoughts are with his parents, Louise and Giles and brother Lachlan, his extended family and all his friends.
We are comforted by the thought that you are now in peace, Jed. Like an eagle, fly high and soar free, Our Friend.
Saturday's Round 13 matches will be played in honour of Jed.
A memorial service was held for Jed earlier today at Morphettville Racecourse, to celebrate the life of a wonderful young man.
Our thoughts are with Jed's family, friends and the South Australian football community.
