We are pleased to share that the late David Hewitson OAM, a distinguished member of our Football South Australia family, was recognised in the Australia Day 2025 Honours List for his contribution to sport and the community.
For over 30 years, David contributed to the game of football in South Australia as a Player, Coach, Referee, Manager and Administrator and was a Life Member for the Noarlunga Districts Junior Soccer Association and South Australia Junior Soccer Association.
At various terms from the reconstituted Football Federation of South Australia in 2005 through to 2021, David served for 15 years as a Director on the Football SA Board. He was also a member of the Football SA Life Membership Advisory Committee, Football SA Project Control Group and the Football SA Museum Committee.
David was extremely passionate about football and growing the game in South Australia. He spent significant time throughout his life focusing on and committed to the development of junior talent by providing structured pathways and competitions in a safe and nurturing environment.
David coached all age groups from U6 to U17 at various Clubs, Schools and Associations, including the NDJSA U16 Girls team. In his time in football, David was also Chairman of the NDJSA and SAJSA (South Australian Junior Soccer Association). He was also the SAJSA delegate to Football SA from 2003-2005.
Recognised for his dedication, in 2014 David was inducted into the Football SA Hall of Fame as a member for outstanding contribution.
David has left a lasting impact on football in South Australia, and we remember him for his invaluable service to our community.
