Match Official Appointments – Senior Men’s Grand Finals

Football SA is pleased to announce that Daniel Cook has been appointed as the Referee for the 2023 RAA National Premier Leagues SA Grand Final, being played at ServiceFM Stadium on Friday night.

Following his debut as a referee in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men competition earlier this season, the 28-year-old will be in charge of a record fifth NPL SA Grand Final, having previously refereed the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022 deciders.

Daniel will be joined on Friday by Nick Elagin & Dion Turner as Assistant Referees. Regis Queffelec, who earlier this year refereed the Federation Cup Final, has been appointed as the Fourth Official.

Promising young Match Official Mitchell Betterman has been selected as the Shadow Referee for the match, and will join the Match Officials team to experience the RAA NPL SA Grand Final environment. He will have a front-row seat to the action unfolding before and during the match, as well as being involved in the post-match debriefing with the Match Officials team and the Referee Coach, Daniel Bryant.

On being announced as the Referee for Friday night’s showpiece match, Daniel said:

“Being appointed to a Grand Final, alongside an amazing team, is truly an honour. Thankful that we have a great support network of coaches and staff that allow us to put our best foot forward on the field.”

Christian Verdicchio will referee the State League One Grand Final on Saturday evening. Having returned to South Australia at the beginning of the season, in April Christian became only the third Match Official to reach 150 NPL SA matches as a referee. He will be supported by Assistant Referees Thomas Temby & Ellie Seaton, with Daniel Goodwin – the second referee to reach the 150 NPL SA matches milestone, also earlier this season – as the Fourth Official.

The State League Two Grand Final on Saturday afternoon will, for the second consecutive year, be refereed by Liam Miller. Another excellent season for Miller saw him make his NPL SA debut in July, as well as his selection to represent South Australia at an upcoming National tournament in October. Liam’s team on Saturday afternoon consists of Ethan McCormick & Leigh Prior as Assistant Referees, with Tom Brinkworth as Fourth Official.

Football SA State Referees Committee Chair, Michelle Smith, said:

“A remarkable achievement by Daniel Cook, to be refereeing his fifth NPL SA Grand Final in six seasons! Congratulations to all Match Officials appointed to Grand Final matches this weekend. Thank you to every one of our Match Officials who have refereed matches across all our competitions this year.”
