Football SA is pleased to announce that Gary Mooney has been appointed as the Referee for the 2022 Women’s National Premier Leagues SA Grand Final presented by SA Power Networks, being played at ServiceFM Stadium on Friday evening.
A veteran of nearly 600 Senior matches in South Australia, including 188 Men’s NPL SA and 72 Women’s NPL SA fixtures, Gary will be refereeing a Women’s NPL SA decider for the third time (2016, 2020).
Gary will be joined tomorrow evening by Referee Academy members Ethan McCormick & Judah Tan as Assistant Referees, with Angus MacDonald appointed as the Fourth Official.
Promising young Match Official Clare Levy has been selected as the Shadow Referee for the match, and will join the Match Officials team to experience the Women’s NPL SA Grand Final environment. She will have a front-row seat to the action unfolding before and during the match, as well as being involved in the post-match debriefing with the Match Officials team and the Referee Coach, Daniel Bryant.
On being announced as the Referee for Friday night’s Grand Final, Gary said:
“I am extremely privileged and honoured to have been appointed to the Women’s NPL SA Grand Final, particularly that I am now in the twilight years of my Refereeing career. I remain totally focused in carrying out my duties as a Match Official and hopefully my colleagues and I can make a small contribution in making it a memorable occasion. Both West Adelaide and Adelaide City are very well coached and disciplined sides, hence it is not surprising that they are contesting the ultimate prize in women’s football within South Australia for Season 2022.
I also wish to acknowledge the people behind the scenes who have supported all the Referees throughout the season. You are a special group of people and without naming any individuals, I genuinely thank you all for your dedication and professionalism. You have all contributed to making it a successful season, in what were challenging times.”
