Summary:
Adelaide City will travel to TK Shutter Reserve this Saturday, as they prepare for a WNPL/NPL double header.

The live stream match of the round will be a cracker! A win for either side will secure 2nd place and a home & away leg play off with minor premiers Campbelltown City in the finals. Pending other results, the loser could end up facing any myriad of teams, with Comets still capable of finishing third, while Para Hills Knights and Olympic are both a chance to claim 6th place.

Last week saw MetroStars cruise through and secure 3 points with a 4 -1 win over Croydon Kings.

Croydon nearly managed to hold Metro the whole first half until Anthony Solagna slotted one past Croydon’s Keeper N.Munro at the 40 minute mark.

Shortly after the break Solagna furthered MetroStars’ lead with another goal at the 49th minute. Lachy Barr quickly reacted with another goal for Metro, giving the away team a 3nil lead.

Croydon looked a chance to come back with a 69th minute penalty scored by Martinello, but Tom Strain sealed MetroStars win with a late strike.

Adelaide City had a tough hit out against Para Hills Knights last week, with no team being able to break the deadlock.

Despite a long range shot from Yuel being denied and an 88th Para Hills Knights goal being ruled offside, both teams walked away with 1 point each to finish off Round 21.

Both teams will be wanting to secure another 3 points to finish off the season, but will need to keep a close eye on the opposing strikers A.Costa and C.Esposito whom both are equal top goal scorers with 17 a piece.

In round 8, Strain netted an early goal pass Rytan Veitch, while Liam Wooding got a late 90 minute brace to secure Metro’s 3 points.

Full coverage starts just before 1pm for the WNPL clash between Metro United WFC v Adelaide City, to be followed by the NPL clash, so be sure to tune into a couple of cracking games on the FFSA Facebook page, NPL TV (YouTube) or via radio broadcast at Radio Boss http://c3.radioboss.fm:8019/stream & TuneIn https://tunein.com/radio/Adelaide-Web-Radio-s304622/

Sturt Lions vs South Adelaide
Venue: Adelaide Shores Football Centre
Date: 04/08/2018 03:00 PM

2018 NPL Round 8 – South Adelaide 2 – 0 Sturt Lions

Summary:
Sturt Lions will host South Adelaide this Saturday, as the two sides meet for the second time this season.

Sturt Lions travelled to Campbelltown City last week in hopes to walk away with 3 points and to move themselves out of the relegation zone.

Only being down 1nil at half time thanks to an early goal from Dion Kirk, Sturt came out at half time with something to prove. Despite end to end efforts Sturt couldn’t break through Campbelltown’s defence.

The flood gates opened in the 70th minute with strikes from Matsumoto, Marino and a second for Kirk to secure the title of 2018 NPL South Australia Premiers.

Sturt’s Italian import Matteo responded with a stunning consolation goal in 81st minute, but their efforts weren’t enough to escape the relegation zone.

Despite South Adelaide losing 3-2 to Adelaide Comets they have secured their spot in the 2019 season finishing 9th overall.

South Adelaide were up 2 -1 at half time thanks to a brace from Sam Carmichael. However South Adelaide could not hold Adelaide Comets in the 2nd half thanks to a 70th minute effort from Carter and a 76th goal from Simic.

Sturt is still mathematically capable of staying up but will rely on other results whilst overcoming a significant goal difference to avoid the drop.

Adelaide Comets vs Croydon Kings
Venue: SA Athletics Stadium
Date: 04/08/2018 03:00 PM

2018 NPL Round 8: Croydon Kings 2 – 3 Adelaide Comets

Summary:
Adelaide Comets will to host Croydon in the Kings’ final game of the 2018 season.

Last time the two sides met, Comets put three past Croydon to win 3-2 at Polonia Reserve.

Comets can still finish 3rd with a win here, but only if Adelaide City fall to Metro Stars in their battle for 2nd place.

Croydon are still a mathematical chance of going down but hold a significant advantage over 11th placed Sturt Lions through goal difference. A point for Brazzale’s side will mean guaranteed safety and this will be their goal on the day.

For the second week in a row now Comets showed they will not go down without a fight, as they came back to draw 2-2 with City in Round 20 and Round 21 saw them came back from losing 2-1 at half time to win 3-2.

MetroStars easily accounted for South Adelaide last week 4 -1.

Croydon will be looking for 1 point to help secure their spot in the NPL for 2019, while Comets will be aiming for a 3rd place finish.

Para Hills Knights vs Adelaide United
Venue: The Paddocks
Date: 04/08/2018 03:00 PM

Last time they met:
2018 NPL Round 8: Adelaide United 3 – 2 Para Hills Knights

Summary:
Para Hills Knights look to keep their final dreams alive with a win over this year’s dark horse Adelaide United.

Knights have had a good run the last few matches with a win in Round 20 against MetroStars and a draw with Adelaide City last week.

With the confidence high they will look to gain 3 points against Adelaide United and hope premiers Campbelltown will account for Adelaide Olympic to secure a finals berth.

Lachlan Brook helped Adelaide United come from 1 goal down to win last week against West Adelaide. A late surge from Adelaide United have seen them secure 5th position and a guaranteed spot in the finals.

Last time the two sides met, it was 5-goal thriller in the second half, with Adelaide United collecting all 3 points.

On that day, Stamatelopolous’ scoring efforts were shortly cancelled out when Michael Ndjekomple reacted to equalise, for Carlo Armiento to then get Adelaide United back on top with his goal.

Despite Tyler Bailey’s late strike, it wasn’t enough to take a point as Brook popped up again to seal Adelaide United’s win.

3 points is a must for Para Hills to get the top 6, this match will sure be a tough one for both sides.

Adelaide Olympic vs Campbelltown City
Venue: VALO Football Centre – The Parks
Date: 04/08/2018 03:00 PM

Last time they met:
2018 NPL Round 8: Campbelltown City 2 – 1 Adelaide Olympic

Summary:
Adelaide Olympic need all 3pts if they want to hold 6th place and a guaranteed spot in the 2018 NPL SA Finals.

Olympic got the much needed 3 points from WT Birkalla last week in a 3nil win at the Adelaide Shores Football Centre with goals from Pounendis, Kamara and goal machine Fausto Erba.

In round 8, a late strike from Ditoria saw Campbelltown win 2-1 and walk away with the 3pts.

Campbelltown having won the league last week against Sturt Lions have the opportunity to rest key players ahead of the finals, however the Red Devils assistant coach Vas Parhas said earlier this week that no player wants to give up their spot in the starting line-up leading into this year’s finals series.

Huge game!

West Adelaide vs West Torrens Birkalla
Venue: VALO Football Centre – The Parks (Pitch 2)
Date: Date: 04/08/2018 03:00 PM

Last time they met:
2018 NPL Round 8: West Torrens Birkalla 1 – 2 West Adelaide

Summary:
West Adelaide will battle it out with bottom placed WT Birkalla, with only pride on the line in this encounter. WT Birkalla’s fate was sealed last week after going down to Adelaide Olympic at home.

West Adelaide lost last week to Adelaide United, resulting in them dropping to 8th place and no chance of a top 6 finish due to goal difference.

West Adelaide went down 2-1 to an impressive Adelaide United, despite leading just after half time from P.Mitris.

United’s second half display proved too strong for West Adelaide, pegging back through a Lachlan Brook brace in the 68 and 78th minute.

With Birkalla relegated to the State League 1 for 2019, a win here might provide some joy in an otherwise disappointing season for a proud club.
