Campbelltown City vs Raiders, Saturday 3pm at Steve Woodcock Sports Centre

The Red Devils and Raiders both got off the mark last week after the disappointment of losing their respective opening round encounters.

Campbelltown managed to stave off a late charge from the Young Reds, earning a 4-3 victory after leading 4-1 early in the first half. Japanese import Yohei Matsumoto getting on the score sheet again while the returning Alex Mullen showed why he’s regarded as one of the stars of the competition with a stellar performance.

Raiders made the trek South to record a convincing victory over Panthers at O’Sullivans Beach, which coach Nik Kuzman will be hoping can kickstart his side’s season. Josh Mori picking up a goal in a best on ground performance, while Yasmin Zudic and Jake Monaco chipped in with a goal each on the way to a 3-1 triumph.

Raiders have a real opportunity to show whether they’re up to the task of NPL football against the nation’s top side from 2018.

Para Hills Knights vs Croydon Kings, 3pm Saturday at The Paddocks

Para Hills Knights will be disappointed they didn’t claim the three points on Monday night, leading for the majority of the match against Comets at Jack Smith Park. An 89th minute Allan Welsh penalty cancelled out Michael Ndjekmopte’s first half goal, ensuring they would make the journey home with only a draw to their name.

Croydon Kings contrastingly still sit proudly on their throne at the top of the NPL table after recording a second consecutive win. Striker Antoni Trimboli banging in his second goal for the season and Luke Klimek turning out another Captain’s performance in a 1-0 win over West Adelaide.

Barney Smith’s Knights will be hoping they can turn their fortunes around to claim their first win for the season. If they are to do so, Tyler Bailey will need to continue his strong start to the 2019 campaign.

Speaking publicly throughout the week, new coach Angelo Costanzo indicated his side had been spurred on by the doubters and he’ll be hoping their motivation continues this Saturday at The Paddocks.

Adelaide City vs Adelaide United FC, Saturday 7pm at Adelaide City Park

In what has been described as one of the most exciting games in recent seasons, City let a 3-0 lead slip on Monday evening at Marden to eventually share the spoils with Adelaide Blue Eagles.

The spirited come back from Vojo Gluscevic’s side was aided by the fact two of City’s defenders were shown their marching orders in the second half, both Bradley Corbo and Zak Waters sent from the field for receiving a second yellow card.

City has now leaked 7 goals in two games and with two starting defenders missing from their backline, will have their work cut out to keep a first clean sheet for the season.

On a positive note for Matricciani’s side, summer signing Marcos Flores opened his goal scoring account, while Evan Kostopoulos showed he has valuable defensive qualities, slotting in at centre back as the black and whites held on for a draw.

Paul Pezos’ side will enter the match on the back of a 4-3 defeat to Campbelltown City last weekend. Despite the loss, the Young Reds showcased great character against last year’s champions and almost salvaged something from the game after being down 4-1 early in the second half.

A stunning free kick from Carlo Armiento the highlight for United, as well as strong performances from Pacifique Niyongabire and Isaac Richards.

This one promises to be a truly fascinating encounter.

Adelaide Olympic vs Adelaide Comets, 7pm Saturday at VALO Football Centre – The Parks

Adelaide Olympic head into Saturday night’s MATCH OF THE ROUND clash with Adelaide Comets as one of only two teams claiming the maximum 6 points from their opening two fixtures for 2019.

A spirited come from behind victory in Round 1 was backed up by a blistering first half display last week against MetroStars, rounding out 3-1 winners at home. Renowned goal scorer Fausto Ebra opened his account for the season, as did the classy Ricardo Da Silva with a goal of the week contender.

Comets salvaged a point in their most recent fixture on Monday night against Para Hills Knights. A penalty in the dying minutes, calmly slotted by Captain Allan Welsh, ensured the home side remain unbeaten from two starts.

Lewis Farquhar has been outstanding for Comets in their opening two encounters for 2019 and will look to link up with Andreas Wiens in the front half of the pitch throughout the season. New signing Omid Popalzay showed off his talents on Monday night as well and looks as though he’ll be a vital part of Comets’ title chances.

The defensive pairing of Andreas Dallera and new signing Matthew Halliday look to be gelling well early and will be a vital cog in Olympic’s wheel for 2019.

Adelaide Blue Eagles vs West Adelaide, Tuesday 8:15pm at Marden Sports Complex

A bumper crowd on Monday night witnessed Adelaide Blue Eagles overcome a three-goal half time deficit to draw 3-3 with Adelaide City.

Two goals from Evan Kounavelis either side of the break dragged his side back into the contest, who were unable to capitalise on a two-man advantage when City had players sent from the field in the 49th and 76th minutes.

West Adelaide are still looking for their first win of the season, going down 1-0 to current league toppers Croydon Kings.

Steve De Giovanniello will be hoping marquee signing Marcelo Carrusca is available to take his place in the starting 11 and will need the likes of Perry Mitris and the in-form Ibby Kamara to lead from the front.

Blue Eagles Italian import Emanuele Testardi looks set to make his first appearance for the season and will provide another goal scoring avenue for Vojo Gluscevic’s side.
