RAA NPLSA Goals Wrap | Round Twelve

Words by Thomas Perrotta

Adelaide City ran out 4-2 winners over Cumberland United in a weekend of pulsating NPLSA action.

City opened the scoring in the eighth minute through Carter, and Irabona doubled their lead twenty minutes later, but two late goals by Ayom Majok ensured the sides entered the break all square.

It didn’t take long for City to hit the front, as Carter netted his second from the penalty spot two minutes after the restart.

The scoring frenzy was over by the hour mark, as Evan Kostopoulos’ strike put the result beyond doubt to secure a crucial win for City.

Adelaide Comets bounced back from their disappointing loss to Croydon Kings last week with a convincing victory over the struggling Modbury Jets.

Comets skipper Allan Welsh starred with a hat-trick as his presence up front, alongside Wiens’ second half goal, was instrumental in his side’s 4-1 win, a result which ensures they hang onto top spot.

Three goals in six second half minutes decided the contest between Adelaide Olympic and MetroStars, a match which the visitors won 3-1.

MetroStars forward Nahuel Bonada scored the only goal of the first half, before life was breathed into the contest in the 70th minute.

Smith’s goal doubled MetroStars’ advantage but it only took two minutes for Mobury’s Butler-Bowdon to halve it once again, before Christian Esposito’s 76th minute penalty sealed the points for his club.

The Kings kept the heat on Comets at the top of the table with their 3-0 triumph over last-placed Para Hills Knights, while Raiders edged out Adelaide United in a gritty 1-0 win.
