Regional Camp Returns

Regional athletes travelled to metropolitan Adelaide last week to participate in the first Regional Camp for 2021, with more than 70 boys and girls aged 11-16 taking to the field at West Beach across the five-days.

Regional Camp

The camp is an opportunity to identify talented regional South Australian players, exposing them to highly experienced and accredited coaches such as Richie Alagich (Skills Acquisition Trainer) and Cristiano Dos Santos (Girl’s Technical Director), with the aim of being selected for Football South Australia’s Regional State Teams.

Tiarn Powell, Participation Officer at Football SA, said the camp was a sorely missed success in showcasing football talent across South Australia last year, given its forced absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was great to get the Regional Camp up and running again this year, having missed out last year. The week was a success, and we look forward to continuing this program in 2021 and into the future.”

In previous years, the camp has been used as an opportunity to identify and prepare players to travel to international tournaments across the globe, such as the Ultimate Fiji Cup in 2018 and Singapore in 2019, showcasing the best regional talent the state has to offer.

With international travel unlikely to feature in the near future, Football SA is shifting its focus to local activity within the football community, exploring opportunities for all South Australian players across the state.

The next camp will be held in the July holidays, with details to be confirmed in the coming months.
