Registrations open for the 2024 Young Female Athlete Conference

Football South Australia is thrilled to announce an empowering conference tailored for young female athletes aged 12-18 across all sporting codes.

On January 10, 2024, from 10 am to 1:00 pm, immerse yourself in an event featuring incredible speakers who will share stories and insights, equipping you with skills, attributes, and tools for success in both sport and life. Topics include female well-being, mental health, sport +menstruation, nutrition, and an interactive Q & A panel session.

  • Mia Lundquist - Quest Performance

Mia Lundquist is the proud owner and head coach of Quest Performance. As a former athlete, now a performance coach she has worked in professional sports for many years across national sports institutes, state talent pathways, professional clubs, and school environments.

  • Embrace Hub:

Hannah Mellier

Hannah Mellier is the Education Programs Manager at the Embrace Collective. Hannah has a background in Secondary Education and Counselling, specializing in recovery-focused therapies in both residential and outpatient treatment. She is passionate about empowering educators to hone their expertise and build the capacity to embed messages of body appreciation and minimize their lifetime risk of developing mental health concerns such as eating disorders, depression, and anxiety. Working as part of the Embrace Collective, the Health Promotion Charity led by Dr Zali Yager and Taryn Brumfitt, she is driven to provide evidence-based, best-practice resources that are accessible to all environments where children live, learn, and play. 

Taryn Brumfitt

With 33 years combined experience, more than 50 published papers, five books, two films, and seven kids, this dynamic duo knows a thing or two about body image - and they’re joining forces to change the world! 2023 Australian of the Year, Taryn Brumfitt has inspired millions of people around the world to Embrace their bodies. The original Embrace Documentary (2016) has been seen by millions of people across 190 countries, and Body Image Movement has a social media reach of over 500 000 followers.

Dr. Zali Yager

Dr Zali Yager has a Health and Physical Education Background, and 18 years' of experience conducting body image research and educating primary and secondary school pre-service teachers. Zali wrote the scientific paper on “What Works” to prevent body image concerns in school settings.

  • Jake Bateman - Hey Sport RUOK?

Business Manager with HITsa Training and Employment, R U OK? Community Ambassador, and former AFL umpiring department member. Jake is passionate about spreading the R U OK? message because of the simple and effective messaging aimed at taking early prevention steps to improve your overall mental health and well-being as well as assisting others with identifying the possible need for seeking additional support. Jake previously worked for the umpiring department at the AFL, having seen firsthand the impact that the demand for high performance along with public scrutiny can have on athletes and administrators at all levels of sport and business. It was this experience that motivated Jake to join the R U OK? team as a Community Ambassador.

  • Ross Wait - Raiise

Ross is a passionate professional with a background in Recreation Planning and Management and Teaching and Learning. His career has centered around integrating sports and education, creating curriculum-linked programs for various organizations globally. With seven years as General Manager of the Port Adelaide Football Club's not-for-profit arm, Power Community Limited, Ross led initiatives across regions and countries. His dedication to social impact led him to establish Gravitate Consulting, supporting businesses in designing and implementing large-scale community impact strategies. A strong advocate for Gender Equality, Ross served on the Zahra Foundation board, initiating the successful fundraising campaign Zahra's Quest, earning him a 2019 Outstanding Service to Community Award and a nomination for Citizen of the Year.
