Round 3

Para Hills Knights vs Adelaide Olympic
Venue: The Paddocks
Date: 6/03/2020 07:30 PM

NPLSA Friday Night Football gets underway at The Paddocks tonight as Olympic heads to the North.

The two sides met on the last day of the 2019 campaign, which saw a late goal from Pounendis that broke Croydon hearts to knock them out of the top 6 in the eleventh hour. The game finished 3-3.

Theo Tsiounis will be without youngsters Issac Mullen and Logan Marley-Mcfall after the pair were sent packing in last Friday night's Northern Derby loss at Modbury Jets.

The Knights looked dangerous for large parts of the game last week but were guilty of not taking their chances.

Olympic also fell short against Comets last weekend suffering a 1-0 loss.

Fausto Erba will be pushing for a start after coming off the bench in the opening two games.

Olympic will be without keeper Nik Harpas after breaking his fibula late on in the game. Nik will be out of action for approximately 3 months. Football SA wishes Nik a speedy recovery.

Campbelltown City vs Croydon Kings
Venue: Steve Woodcock Sports Centre
Date: 6/03/2020 07:30 PM

Champions Campbelltown City faces Croydon Kings on Friday night at Steve Woodcock Sports Centre.

Phil Stubbins side struggled to breakdown a resilient Raiders last weekend after racking up 17 chances.

The Red Devils will be hoping the ever goal-hungry Luis Ditroia and Marc Marino can find the back of the net, along with hopes that new striker Joshua Barresi can break his duck too.

Croydon Kings were agonisingly close to their first win of the season last week, only to be denied by Adelaide United 4 minutes from normal time.

The sides last met on the last round of the regular season, with Campbelltown City running away with a 2-1 victory.

Adelaide Comets vs Cumberland United
Venue: SA Athletics Stadium
Date: 6/03/2020 08:15 PM

Adelaide Comets got back to winning ways last week, something that a struggling Cumberland United side did not want as the two faces each other at Santos Stadium on Friday night.

Barney Smith's side fought out a great 1-0 win away at Adelaide Olympic last weekend and created numerous chances once again. Ninko Beric fired home the winner early in the second half which eventually secured the Comets their first win of the campaign.

Cumberland United have to pick themselves up after a humiliating 8-0 loss at home to MetroStars last Saturday but Neil Young's men will have to be extremely disciplined if they are to get anything from the 2019 Runners-Up. The Foxes have conceded already 11 goals in 180 minutes of football.

Fans will experience Santos Stadium like they never have before tonight, with the stadium ground getting a light upgrade this week.

MetroStars vs Adelaide City
Venue: TK Shutter Reserve
Date: 6/03/2020 08:15 PM

Words by Jason Cavey (@JasonKVOfficial)

MetroStars head into this match after an impressive 8-0 win over Cumberland United last Saturday. Luis Benedetti made his full debut for the club and gave MetroStars the lead on 19 minutes with a spectacular curling effort from outside the box. Joshua Mori then doubled the lead with a long-range strike. Christian Esposito bagged a second-half hat-trick, while goals from Dylan Smith and Fabian Barbiero completed the rout to give MetroStars their biggest league win since 2011.

Meanwhile, Adelaide City are coming off a 1-1 away to Adelaide Blue Eagles on Monday night. An early Yohei Matsumoto penalty gave the hosts the lead before captain Christopher Annicchiarico was sent off. Adriano Pellegrino's deflected shot brought the visitors level on the stroke of half-time. A fiery second half saw Zakariah Waters and Aladin Irabona both dismissed for the Black and White's to ensure they will miss Friday night's game.

Rob Saraceno will take charge of his 108th as MetroStars coach, taking him to outright second in club history.

Adelaide United FC vs Modbury Jets
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: 8/03/2020 03:00 PM

Words by Harry Brayley

Adelaide United FC hosts Modbury Jets in what promises to be an enticing spectacle.

Jason Trimboli’s side sits top of the table after two rounds. The recently promoted Jets will be looking to continue their strong start to the season following back to back wins, most notably a 1-0 victory over last season’s runners up the Adelaide Comets in Round 1, thanks to a stunning strike by young player of the year Kur Kur.

The Jets will be full of confidence after coming from a goal down to defeat Para Hills 2-1 last week. Sean McGreevy levelled the scores in the 75th minute. Three minutes later, last season’s player of the year Daniel Pritchard struck home the winner with a close-range volley, his first for the season. Modbury are the only team yet to drop points and will be confident they can get a result.

United will be looking to bounce back in front of their home fans, after being held to a 1-1 draw away to Croydon Kings in Round 2. Top scorer Binyam Kebede has been in fine form for United, with a goal against Croydon last week and a brace in Round 1 against Campbelltown, definitely one to watch.

Both teams will head into this fixture with confidence. They both showed a fighting spirit to come from behind and get a result in Round 2.

Both teams will be full of optimism following their sides promising start to the season.

Adelaide Blue Eagles vs Raiders
Venue: Marden Sports Complex
Date: 9/03/2020 08:15 PM

2019 promotion pair Blue Eagles and Raiders play out under the lights at Marden, as the popular Monday Night Football returns for another week.

Over 10,000 viewers tuned into Adelaide Blue Eagles 1-1 draw with Adelaide City last Monday.

Blue Eagles captain Christopher Annicchiarico will miss this clash after his red card last week against Adelaide City. His side though did well to keep out Adelaide City for long periods of the game with a man down.

Raiders also survived the onslaught from Campbelltown City and played out a 0-0 draw last Friday.

Both of these sides are still waiting for their first win of the season and hopes to find their form quickly to ensure they don't get left behind early on.
