Match Preview:

After a tough couple of years in the depths of State League 2, Playford Patriots can now look forward to 2nd tier football under the direction of Ben Moore, who guided the club to Premiers status in his first full season as coach.

Adelaide Victory illustrated the beauty of finals football last weekend, coming from 5th on the table to earn a shot at Grand Final glory, denying Adelaide Hills promotion at the same time.  It was a 2-4 victory at the Hawks Nest, a first half flurry of goals including a brace from George Katsigiannis set up a 1-3 half time lead, with Yianni Stamatelopoulos’ side able to hold on for victory.

Playford booked their placed in the Grand Final through a comfortable aggregate win over Hills in their two-leg semi-final playoff, enjoying a week off to freshen up before the trip to Hindmarsh.

Moore’s young squad boasts the best attacking and defensive record in the SL2, banging away 61 and only conceding 14 goals on their way to a top place finish. The experience of shot-stopper Anthony Capaldi a vital component of Playford’s defensive competence. The goals were shared amongst four main contributors in O’Donnell (13), McLaughlin (10), Maguire (6) and Melis (6).

Adelaide Victory have a weapon at their disposal in George Katsigiannis, blowing away the competition on his way to the golden boot award, slotting 27 goals from his 21 starts. Vasilis Carapanayiotis also chimed in with a valuable 9 goals for the year.

Both teams will come into the game knowing they’ve secured promotion to State League 1 for 2018 which will ease some of the pressure in those tense early minutes, and hopefully for the punters, result in some free flowing, expressive and attacking football.
