State League Preview - Round Four

 State League One

State League One

Modbury Jets will travel to Carnegie Reserve on Friday night at 7:30 pm, where they will meet a Western Strikers side, sitting equal on points with them so far this season. Strikers will look to rediscover their winning form against the Jets, taking them into uncharted territory many did not expect of the outfit after dropping points to West Adelaide last week. The 4-3 result undermines Strikers solid defensive start after the first two rounds, where they only conceded one goal and will pin their 3-point hopes on rediscovering that form that put them in second after Round Two.

Modbury, meanwhile, will be coming off the back of a solid 3-0 win over last year’s NPL side Para Hills and, currently, have the best defensive record in the league, making the clash one of the highlights of the round.

Other matches in the round include the underperforming Birkalla’s clash with the winless Adelaide Hills, Eastern United’s search for more points against the sleeping giants Playford City, Cobras’ western battle against Fulham United, first-placed Adelaide Victory’s meeting with the underperforming Para Hills, and the top six favourites contest between White City and West Adelaide.

The high-flying Port Adelaide will meet Salisbury United at Ngarrpalda (Taperoo Reserve) this Saturday at 7:00 pm in what will be a top of the table clash. Port Adelaide enter Round Four hot off the heels of their 3-1 victory over the winless Cove, with the result giving them the joint-best defensive record in State League Two. Salisbury, so far, are a surprise of the season, with the northern outfit sitting second after three games thanks to their 5-1 victory over Seaford. Salisbury’s 3-point hopes will rely on the attacking threat—and ability to find the back of the net—of Ibrahim Bigirimana, the second-highest goalscorer in State League Two. If the Pirates can keep Bigirimana quiet, they are a step closer to making it four wins from four to kick start their 2021 campaign in State League Two.

Other games across State League Two in Round Four include the battle between north and south in Modbury Vista and Noarlunga, the third and fourth-placed contest between Adelaide University and Vipers, the joint-winless sides Mount Barker and Cove’s meeting, the northern rivalry between Gawler Eagles and Northern Demons, and the confidence-stricken Seaford’s match against the sixth-placed Pontian Eagles.
