WNPL Preview | Round 20

COMvNTC

Adelaide Comets vs FFSA NTC
Venue: West Beach Parks Football Centre
Date: 9/08/2019 06:15 PM

This game is HUGE. The do or die match that will determine season 2020 for the young NTC squad. A draw for Adelaide Comets will be enough to secure their spot in the 2020 WNPL, with only a win going to be good enough to help NTC survive the relegation trip this season.

FFSA NTC were agonisingly close to a much-needed draw on Monday night when they played their Round 18 catch-up match against Fulham. They conceded a 94th minute to go down 2-1 to Fulham, who have now secured WNPL status for next season. FFSA will not be boing down without a fight, with tonight being a vital match.

Comets will look to spoil the party and send their opponents to Division 1 for next season and will be out in force with the intent to score goals! Mansueto and Chappel have been a bit quiet in recent weeks but will look to showcase their talent to help their squad win a much-needed encounter.

The last encounter between these two teams back in May ended in a 0-0 draw. I can guarantee there will be goals tonight!

Metro United WFC vs Adelaide City FC
Venue: TK Shutter Reserve
Date: 10/08/2019 07:15 PM

Metro were back in winning ways last week thanks Millie Scott’s first WNPL goal. Scott’s single goal was enough to give Metro a 1-0 win over the NTC. Their first win since mid-June. Scalzi’s side have also ensured they are still in the race for Finals. They sit one point behind Uni, who will also have a hard fight this week against West Adelaide.

Adelaide City last week secured their first every WNPL premiership, thanks to a 1-1 draw with Adelaide Uni. City’s first draw did not come easy, with Uni unable to capitalise on a game that they were in charge of for the 90 minutes.
Metro will be out to focus on City’s weak points and ensure that they suffer a third loss of the season and lower their momentum heading into not only the Cup Final, but the Finals Series.

City However are looking to continue the party at Oakden with their 3rd win over Metro this season (4th if you include cup). In the history of the WNPL, Metro United have always secured at least one victory against City. They will look to continue this form. If City win their remaining two fixtures, they will climb to 55 points, something no team has done before in the WNPL. The record for the highest points finish in the WNPL is Metro United with 54 points (2016, 2018).

Date: 9/08/2019 08:15 PM

Inter v Fulham, a game where both clubs have something to celebrate. Inter have locked in a finals birth for the first time in their history, while Fulham have locked in another year in the WNPL. Both clubs, however, will be out to showcase their worth and strong talent and ensure they end the regular season on a high.

The last encounter between these two teams turned out to be a phenomenal match, with Esther Heywood-Smith scoring a 93rd-minute winner to ensure Inter took home the three points. With both clubs entering tonight with high heads, they will look to ensure they continue their winning form and Fulham will look to make it 3 wins from 4 matches, to end the season as one of the most inform teams currently.

Adelaide University vs West Adelaide
Venue: West Beach Parks Football Centre
Date: 9/08/2019 08:00 PM

With West Adelaide already securing 2nd spot after last week’s 3-0 win over Salisbury, Adelaide Uni are the team with it all to play for. A win tonight can almost secure their wish for a finals birth. Uni will be out to pounce on West Adelaide and put the pressure on Metro United for that 4th spot in the finals series.

West Adelaide will look to ensure Adelaide Uni don’t get too ahead of themselves when they kick-off tonight at West Beach. With West Adelaide having a cruisy final two rounds (already securing 2nd spot), Santrac has a tough task ahead of him to ensure that the momentum is still in his players and ensure they don’t switch off.

Uni had terrific support in the stands last week, and that will be set to continue as they fight for a finals spot, which is something they missed out on last season. Anything but finals will be a failure for Kosta Jaric’s side.

In what will be the last Friday night WNPL fixture at West Beach in 2019, this will sure be one of the matches of the season!
