WNPL Preview | Round 21

FULvUNI

Fulham United vs Adelaide University
Venue: West Beach Parks Football Centre
Date: 17/08/2019 05:00 PM

Fulham United enter Saturday night with fire to ensure they finish off their season strong and showcase their talent. A win for Fulham will be only their second win against a top 4 side since 2017. That is one way to end a season. Funny enough, their only win against a top 4 side since 2017 is against Adelaide Uni, when they won 2-1 in Round 10 this season.

Uni, however, will enter the encounter happy as Larry after securing a finals birth following last week’s 1-0 win over 2nd placed West Adelaide. After securing 4th spot, Uni look at this match against Fulham as a test for when they play Salisbury Inter in 2 weeks’ time in the Elimination Final.

With a week off before finals for Uni, expect a physical match as Fulham still look to prove they are powerhouse club of women’s football.

Adelaide City FC vs Adelaide Comets
Venue: Adelaide City Park
Date: 17/08/2019 05:00 PM

The Premiers v The Survivors. Adelaide Comets have survived one season they would like to forget. Entering a league they have dreamed of for years, they started the season with the hardest draw possible, playing Salisbury, Metro, West Adelaide and Adelaide City. However they did show force only going down 3-2 to City in Round 3, which was a nail-biting match.

City might still be in party mode after winning the premiership earlier this month, which may cause some mistakes being made. Comets will look to pounce on City’s mistakes should they provide Comets the chance, to show City that it’s not over till it’s over.

Comets have nothing to lose, securing 7th spot for their inaugural year. City will look to take the game easy, as they have their 7th consecutive Cup Final next Friday night. They will not want to enter that match with any unnecessary injuries.

FFSA NTC vs Salisbury Inter
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: 17/08/2019 05:00 PM

FFSA NTC enters this match anticipating the full-time whistle after what has been an underperforming season. With a fairly new and young squad compared to last season, NTC had a lot to prove. Good performances did come out throughout the year, however, an inconsistent season has put them bottom of the table. This match will be one for them to prove they still have what it takes at the top level.

Salisbury Inter enters the match sitting happily in 3rd spot, knowing they can’t go higher and they can’t go lower. They will be anticipating their first-ever finals match in 2 weeks’ time when they take on Adelaide Uni in the Elimination Final.

FFSA NTC line-up: 1. Erin Murphy (GK), 2. Zoe Tolland, 3. Michaela Belmonte, 6. Ella Tonkin, 7. Talia Bilardo, 10. Caitlin White, 11. Lara Kirkby, 14. Ella Smith, 15. Sarah Branford, 17. WAvMU

West Adelaide vs Metro United WFC
Venue: TK Shutter Reserve
Date: 17/08/2019 05:00 PM

West Adelaide plays host to Metro United in their final match for the 2019 regular season. Metro will be entering this match disappointed after failing to earn finals spot for the first time in WNPL history. Watching the finals series from the sideline is not a familiar sight for Metro, however with one match to play, they will look to go out with power.

With West Adelaide potentially resting a few players ahead of the Cup Final next Friday, West will still look to not slip and let Metro have the final day of the season. Metro will be playing at TK Shutter for the 5th time season, and should be used to the big pitch by now. However, West Adelaide did beat them at the venue in May through a 3-2 win over Metro.

Metro are looking for redemption against West Adelaide after that result. Each team has one apiece against each other this season, so this match will prove to be one to claim bragging rights, which Metro will look forward to more as a compensation for missing finals.

West Adelaide line-up: 2. Elena Psaroulis (C), 4. Abby Touchette, 5. Christie Hillyer, 8. Georgia Macri, 11. Emily Hodgson, 12. Nicole Tilley, 15. Anna Pritchard, 17. Dragana Kljajic, 19.
