WNPL stars called up to Young Matildas camp

Football Federation SA is delighted to learn that Evelyn Goldsmith and Emily Hodgson have been selected to attend this weekend's Young Matildas camp.

Both girls traveled to Sydney this morning after being called up to the camp earlier this week.

Emily Hodgson had a sensational season with Adelaide United in the Westfield W-League and has continued her good form in this season's WNPL, and has shown that she is becoming a permanent and integral member of the Young Matildas squad.

Evelyn Goldsmith has been selected for the first time into the Young Matildas camp. Evelyn was the 2018 WNPL Goal Keeper of the year after an excellent year with the FFSA NTC squad.

FFSA Women's Competitions Coordinator, Firas Shahin is pleased for the duo.

“It is fantastic to see that national coaches are keeping a close eye on the talent we have in the WNPL SA. It is really great to see Emily recalled to the Young Matildas, and exciting to hear the news that Evelyn has been selected for the camp for the first time in her young career. After being named Goal Keeper of the year last season, it is sensational that her achievement caught the eye of national selectors. She is one to watch for the future

Adelaide University WNPL Head Coach, Kosta Jaric, told FFSA Evelyn's hard work in preseason contributed heavily to her call up.

“The club and coaching staff are extremely proud and excited for Evelyn. She’s worked hard to build a relationship with her new teammates. The Young Matildas coaching staff mentioned to me that her form in the 2018 WNPL and the 2019 Mitise Pre-Season Cup were what caught their eye and led to her call-up. This just shows that the WNPL SA is on the watch of the national selectors. We are a proud club to have Evelyn being selected for the Young Matildas camp. We can’t wait to have her jersey hang up in the clubrooms when she is selected for a Young Matildas game, which will no doubt be very soon.

Football Federation SA congratulates both Evelyn and Emily and wishes them all the best at the camp.
