The Round of 16 of the 2022 WNPL and WSL Cup is here with three exciting fixtures kicking us off tonight. We take a quick look at some of the exciting matchups for this upcoming round.

State Centre for Football hosts an exciting clash between two WNPLSA teams in the Round of 16 of the 2022 WNPL and WSL Cup as Adelaide Comets take on Adelaide City. Adelaide Comets have been dominant in recent weeks, with the team currently on a four-game unbeaten run that has seen them win three. In their last fixture, Adelaide Comets beat Football SA NTC 2-1 to jump into the top four. To enter the Round of 16 Adelaide Comets beat Metro United WFC Reserves 7-1. Their opponents Adelaide City have been almost unbeatable this season, winning every game besides the one which now sees them sit in second, missing out on a top place by goal difference. In their last fixture, Adelaide City beat top-four rivals Salisbury Inter 2-1.  The team secured a 6-1 victory over a strong Football SA NTC team in the first round to guarantee a spot in the Round of 16.

The second fixture at the State Centre for Football will see last year’s Champions Salisbury Inter take on fellow WNPLSA side Fulham United. Although not starting their season the way they would have liked, Salisbury Inter continues to prove to be a strong performer this season as they currently sit in third. Losing their last fixture against Adelaide City, Salisbury Inter has been in great form this past month, winning three in a row before their loss. Salisbury Inter provided one of the great cup performances as they beat Elizabeth Grove 19-1 in the First Round. Fulham United are aiming for an impressive cup run after starting the season without a win. In their last fixture, Fulham United experienced their fifth defeat in seven games as Metro United WFC beat them 2-1. Fulham United had a bye in Round One to enter the Round of 16. Can they knock out the last season’s champions?

Cove FC face a tough challenge tonight as they take on WNPLSA leaders West Adelaide at Marion Sports & Community Club. Currently sitting in fifth in the Women’s State League, Cove FC have had a mixed start to the 2022 season, winning three, losing two and drawing one. Cove FC beat Salisbury Inter Reserves 5-4 on penalties after finishing the game 1-1 to reach the Round of 16. West Adelaide has been dominant in recent weeks winning every game since their opening round defeat to Adelaide City. Currently sitting top of the WNPLSA, West Adelaide continues to impress each week, holding the best attacking and defensive records in the competition. In their last league fixture, they beat Adelaide University 5-0, while they knocked fellow WNPLSA team Modbury Vista out of the WNPL & WSL Cup in Round One winning that encounter 5-1.

 

WT Birkalla and Flinders United face off in what could be a tightly contested encounter. WT Birkalla has struggled thus far in the 2022 season, currently sitting in eighth in the WNPLSA without winning a game. They picked up their third draw of the season as they finished their Round Seven clash with Modbury Vista level at 1-1. WT Birkalla beat Fulham United Reserves 3-0 in Round One to reach the Round of 16. Flinders United has been the Women’s State League standout performer this season, currently sitting in first with five wins and only one loss. Adelaide Jaguars secured an impressive 4-1 win over Adelaide Jaguars in Round Seven of the league. To reach the Round of 16, Flinders United beat fellow Women’s State League Team South Adelaide in a comfortable fashion, winning 4-0.
