Salisbury Inter vs Adelaide Comets
6:30 pm | Friday 1 July | State Centre for Football
Last Meeting:
(6/4/22) Round Three | Adelaide Comets 0 v Salisbury Inter 3

Salisbury Inter

Salisbury Inter is looking to take their streak to five consecutive wins, however, face a difficult challenge in the form of Adelaide Comets. Since their devastating 2-1 loss to Adelaide City in Round Seven, Salisbury Inter has been in dominant form which has seen them win their last four games. Salisbury Inter has continued to impress over the last two months, which has seen them win six of their last seven matches. In their last league match, Salisbury Inter defeated Football SA NTC in dramatic fashion as Erin Hood converted her penalty in the 79th minute to secure the 1-0 win. Salisbury Inter will be devasted to have been knocked out of the WNPL & WSL Cup last week as they were defeated 1-0 by West Adelaide. With the top-of-table clash approaching next week, Salisbury Inter needs to secure three points this week to help them remain five points away from the top spot.

Salisbury Inter won comfortably last time they met Adelaide Comets, with the team securing a 3-0 victory. Emily Heazlewood starred for Salisbury Inter that night as she secured a brace to lead the team to their first win of the season, while Sharni Tansell also contributed to a goal on the night.

After experiencing five games without a defeat between Round Four and Round Eight, Adelaide Comets' form has dramatically dropped which has now seen the drop out of the top four. Adelaide Comets experienced their third week without a victory as they were beaten 2-1 to Metro United WFC in Round 11, with Chrissy Panagaris’ 90th-minute goal unable to spark any comeback. The team find themselves in a difficult situation as they are currently level on points with two other teams, while Metro United WFC only sits one point behind in seventh.

Last Meeting:
(8/4/22) Round Three | Modbury Vista 1 v Adelaide City 2

Modbury Vista

Adelaide City searches to re-enter the top two as they face the current bottom side Modbury Vista at Adelaide City Park. The team returned to winning ways in Round 11 as they beat WT Birkalla 2-0 with Katie Bowler converting from the penalty spot to secure her eighth goal of the season, while Daniela Di Bartolo was able to outjump all opposition to score with a header in the 90th minute. Adelaide City will be in great spirits after progressing to the Semi-Finals of the WNPL & WSL Cup as they beat Metro United WFC 4-1 with goals from Yasmina Kasumovic and Mawa Sumaoro, while Bowler and Di Bartolo both secured goals in consecutive week. With there currently being six points between them and first placed West Adelaide, three points are vital for Adelaide City in Round 12, while they’ll look to overtake Salisbury United who is currently only one point ahead.

Modbury Vista contributed to a strong showing last time they met Adelaide City, however, were left devastated to leave the match without any points. Former Adelaide City player Alana Fitzsimmons opened the scoring for Modbury Vista on the night in the 14th minute, however, it took a late Isabel Hodgson to double for Adelaide City to secure the 2-1 win.

Still sitting at the bottom of the WNPLSA, Modbury Vista is eager to remove themselves as they aim to remain in the league for season 2023. Currently sitting on only three points, Modbury Vista is still yet to win a game this WNPLSA season. Modbury Vista is currently on the back of a disappointing result that saw them lose 7-2 to league leaders West Adelaide, which saw Alana Armstrong and Ella Smith both contribute to goals for the team that night. Football SA NTC felt their fourth defeat of the season as they were beaten by Salisbury Inter who scored a late penalty to secure the three points. Although the loss, Football SA NTC remained amongst the top four for another week, however, could potentially see them drop out if they are unable to secure three points in Round 12. WT Birkalla
Facebook: West Torrens Birkalla SC

WT Birkalla looks to secure their first win of the season, while Adelaide University looks to jump back into the top four. Currently, on a four-game losing streak in the league, this form has not translated to their cup run which has seen them enter the Semi-Final of the WNPL & WSL Cup after a 6-0 win over Adelaide University’s Reserves, which saw multiple players get their names on the scoresheet. Currently sitting in the ninth level on points with Modbury Vista in tenth, WT Birkalla will hope their incredible form in the cup can translate to three points that could potentially see them leave the bottom two.

Adelaide University eased to victory last time they met WT Birkalla, with them securing a 3-0 win. Stella Rigon opened the scoring for Adelaide University in the 12th minute with an incredible freekick from long-range, while an own goal three minutes later and a tidy finish by Chanel Todino in the 52nd minute secured the victory.

It took until the second half for Adelaide University to find their breakthrough with Stella Rigon and Alysia Panagakos both scoring to secure the victory for their team. Although remaining in sixth, their win over Fulham United took them level on points with current fourth-placed Football SA NTC and fifth-placed Adelaide Comets on 17 points each, meaning a win could potentially see the overtake both teams.
