Summary:
Tonight’s WNPL Preliminary Final will see league premiers Metro United WFC face off against West Adelaide for the final spot in next Saturday’s Grand Final against Adelaide City.
The last time these two sides met Metro United came out on top thanks to two first half goals from Calder and Quigley. This contest proved to be a great match, as did the livestream match between these two clubs back in Round 14, where Metro also took out the win 2-1, thanks to two magnificent goals by the 2018 golden boot winner, Chrissy Panagaris.
West Adelaide haven’t beaten Metro since March 8 2017, where they were 5-1 victors. With West Adelaide having a full strength side back after a run with injuries, they will be out in force to prove why they deserve to play-off for the championship next week.
A 2-0 win over FFSA NTC Girls last week in the Elimination Final is what gives West Adelaide the motivational edge ahead of tonight’s Preliminary Final. Goals from Nicola and Kljajic is all that was needed to end the NTC’s fairytale debut season in the WNPL. Their opponents come into the match after a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the hands of Adelaide City, who enjoy the week off ahead of next Saturday’s Grand Final.

2018 WNPL & WSL Play-Off Series – First Leg: Salisbury United 1 – 1 Fulham United
Summary:
Tonight will see the second leg of the 2018 Women’s NPL & State League Play-off Series between Fulham United an Salisbury United.
If the second leg is anything like the first leg, we are in for an exciting match. The first leg finished in a 1-1 draw. Fulham United were gifted a crucial away goal thanks to Salisbury defender Hayley Williams. A Hannah Stehbens goal in the second half however bought Salisbury back into the match.
Fulham captain and defender gifted Salisbury with a late penalty after a late tackle, however, Salisbury Forward Natasha Pritchard could not convert, with Fulham Keeper Matilda Comley pulling off a great save, to ensure the game ended 1-1.
Fulham head into the second leg with a lot more confidence. They will be playing on an artificial surface which will suit their style of play a lot more than Salisbury. Also boosting the WNPL sides confidence will be the return of star player Jenna Mccormick.
Fulham United have never been relegated from top-flight women’s football, however Salisbury will be out to prove why they deserve to be a WNPL side in 2019. being their inaugural season in the Women’s State League, they wouldn’t want anything less than to prove why they can be a second powerhouse women’s club in Salisbury. Can Salisbury United join Salisbury Inter in the 2019 WNPL and begin the rivalry of the “Salisbury Derby”?
Here is the scenario for each team. If either team win, they go through to the 2019 WNPL, if it ends in a 0-0 draw, Fulham keep their WNPL spot by winning on away goals. If it is ends in a 1-1 draw, the aggregate score will be 2-2, which means, with one away goal each, we head into extra time. If it ends in a 2-2 draw, Salisbury United knockout Fulham from the WNPL on away goals.
