(10/7/21) Round 12 | MetroStars 2 v Adelaide Comets 2

MetroStars
Facebook: MetroStars

It’s first vs fourth as the undefeated Adelaide Comets travels to TK Shutter for Friday night football against MetroStars.

Adelaide Comets’ start to the 2022 season couldn’t have begun much better than it has, recording three wins and two draws in their first five games. Currently sitting top of the table, Adelaide Comets will look to expand their lead early on with a win against another early standout in MetroStars.

Adelaide Comets showed their talent in full effect in Round Five as they ran out 3-0 winners against a quality South Adelaide team. Travelling to O’Sullivan’s Beach Sports and Community Centre last Saturday, Adelaide Comets were able to continue their great early form with Ryan Yates gave his team an early lead, while Allan Welsh contributed to his third goal of the season before Thomas Briscoe scored his first of the season.

Thus far, Adelaide Comets have been the standout team defensive team only conceding two goals in their opening five games. Adelaide Comets was able to keep a South Adelaide team that had scored 14 goals in four games goalless in their round five fixture. The team hasn’t found any problems going forward, as they have recorded twelve goals in five games, the second-best in the competition.

Round Six won’t be an easy encounter for Adelaide Comets, as they face a refreshed MetroStars team who hasn’t played since the 12th of March in their 2-0 win over Cumberland United. After missing their Round Five fixture against Adelaide City due to a COVID postponement, MetroStars will be eager to get back to winning ways against Adelaide Comets.

In their first four matches, MetroStars have won three, only losing one. With a game in hand, a win for MetroStars could see the team overtake Adelaide Comets at the top of the RAA NPLSA. New signing Jackson Walls has been a real standout for his new side, with the fullback scoring in three of his first four matches, quickly becoming a fan favourite. Hamish Gow continues to impress early in the season, while Alessio Melisi and Ren Nagamatsu look strong in front of goals.

Croydon FC has experienced an outstanding start to the season, as they sit second on the tables, one point away from the top spot. In their first five matches, Croydon FC has recorded three wins, a draw and only one loss. Round Five saw Croydon FC record a 4-3 win over Adelaide United FC, as Antoni Trimboli’s second goal of the season secured all three points for his team. Patrick Caraccia and Luke Klimek both picked up their first goals of the season, while Dion Kirk picked up his third, however, Kirk will miss the next match after receiving a red card at the end of the Adelaide United FC match.

WT Birkalla’s start to the 2022 season has not gone to plan as they start the season with only one win in their first five games. The team experienced their third defeat of the season as Campbelltown City dominated at home to beat WT Birkalla 3-0, with Nicholas Harpas’ first match against his former club not going to plan. WT Birkalla currently holds the second-worst attacking record in the competition and must look to improve in this department to ensure a win against their Round Six opponents.

Cumberland United vs Adelaide United FC
3:00 pm | Saturday 2 April | A.A Bailey Reserve
Last Meeting:
(18/9/21) Round 22, Cumberland United 4 v Adelaide United FC 0

Cumberland
Facebook: Cumberland United Football Club

The bottom two teams face each other as Adelaide United FC travels to A.A Bailey Reserve to take on Cumberland United.

Cumberland United have struggled thus far this season, recording only one point in their opening five matches. Round Five saw Cumberland United lose their third game in a row, as they lost to FK Beograd 2-0. Jack Schoen will miss the next round matchup against Adelaide United FC after he was shown a red card against FK Beograd. Currently holding the worst attacking record in the competition, with only three goals scored, Cumberland United must take advantage of Adelaide United FC’s struggling defence in Round Six.

Adelaide United FC’s start to the 2022 season hasn’t been much better, as they enter round six with only one win and four losses, with their most recent loss coming against Croydon FC as they were beaten 4-3. Their defence has been the biggest problem for the team as they have conceded 19 goals in their opening five matches. The return of attacker Yaya Dukuly could spark a run of form after the young forward contributed two goals on his first appearance of the season last round. A win for Adelaide United FC could prove vital early in the season as they look to distance themselves from the bottom of the ladder.

Cumberland United line-up: Lansana Smith, Minsung Park, Stavros Bakopanos, Habtamu Horne, Daniel Ryles, Rocco Visconte, 1. Luke Schoen (GK), 3. Joshua Harvey, 4. Tom Dittmar, 5. Sam Carmichael, 8. Last Meeting:
(7/9/21) Round 13, Campbelltown City 0 v Sturt Lions 1

Campbelltown
Facebook: Campbelltown City Soccer & Social Club

Campbelltown City has now found their form, recording two wins in a row, most recently winning 3-0 against WT Birkalla at home. After experiencing defeats in their opening two games, Campbelltown City has gone three matches without defeat. Marc Marino’s form has been the difference-maker, scoring six goals in his past two matches, leading his team to back-to-back victories. Alex Mullen has also continued his great goal scoring form, scoring in three of his first five matches. Currently sitting outside the top six, Campbelltown City will hope another win will help them climb the ladder.

Sturt Lions will be in great spirits after they were able to perform one of the comebacks of the season, as they won 4-3 against Adelaide Olympic after being 3-0 down. Alex Sortini picked up his first two goals of the season, while Jacob Atkinson added his second goal and Michael Marrone’s last-minute winner saw him score his first of the season. Sturt Lions currently have no problem finding the back of the net, however, continue to leak goals each match. Sturt Lions must be defensively strong if they want to beat a Campbelltown City side that has scored eight in their last two games.

Adelaide City and FK Beograd meet in league competition for the first time since 2015, as FK Beograd search for their third win in a row, while Adelaide City looks to keep their undefeated streak intact.

Adelaide City’s title defence has started well, as they enter round six undefeated with two wins and two draws, with a game in hand. Adelaide City currently holds the second-best defensive record in the competition, conceding only three goals in four games, while contributing to nine goals. Adelaide City has not received an easy start to the season, with last year’s Champions facing the current top two in Adelaide Comets and Croydon FC, while opening their season against Campbelltown City. Kur Kur will look to continue his great early form that has seen the attacker score four in four to start the season.

Damian Mori returns to face his former side, as FK Beograd looks to continue their great run of form. FK Beograd recorded their second win of the season in Round Five as they beat Cumberland United 2-0 as Joshua Mori and Filimon Asefa scored their first goals for their new club. Last Meeting:
(17/7/21) Round 13, South Adelaide 2 v Adelaide Olympic 2

South Adelaide
Facebook: SA Panthers FC

A win in Round Six is vital for Adelaide Olympic after experiencing three matches without a victory. Round Five saw Adelaide Olympic blow a 3-0 lead as Sturt Lions made a late comeback to steal the win 4-3. Adelaide Olympic currently holds the second-worst defensive record in the competition conceding 14 in five games, however, scoring goals does not seem a problem, with the club holding the third joint best with twelve goals.

Still holding the best-attacking record in the competition, South Adelaide will look to take advantage of Adelaide Olympic’s poor defensive record as they look to bounce back from two losses in a row. After starting the season with three wins in three, South Adelaide is currently experiencing a bad patch which culminated with a 3-0 loss against Adelaide Comets in Round Five. South Adelaide will hope that Jonathon Rideout can continue his goalscoring form from their opening four matches.
